New comedy show 2Bed + Jen gets the green light from Bell Fibe TV1
Six-episode series by Jess Blackwell and Steve Chambers explores roommates, riches, and erotica in Steel Town
Toronto, ON — July 16, 2026 — Bell Fibe TV1 has ordered the Hamilton-set comedy series from Lumida Productions, a production company headed by Jess Blackwell.
Co-created by Jess Blackwell and Steve Chambers, 2Bed + Jen follows the (mis)adventures of two Hamilton women struggling to survive the cost-of-living crisis. In their thirties and barely scraping by with their service-sector jobs, the cousins find their lives hilariously upended when a whimsical woman on the run bursts into their world.
The series will star Blackwell and real-life cousin-in-law Jacqueline DeWitt as the cousins, and will be directed by Blackwell and Chambers. Blackwell will also lead the production as showrunner. Filming is scheduled to begin this October in downtown Hamilton, where the series is set.
The series is expected to launch on Fibe TV1 in spring 2027, and will be available on-demand for Fibe TV subscribers.
“It was important to me to highlight the positive and humorous aspects of life in Hamilton, which is primarily where I grew up. The outsider’s perspective of the city tends to focus on how ‘rough’ and ‘gritty’ it is, but it can also be a fun and vibrant place to live, with a strong sense of community. Our hope is that 2Bed + Jen will provide a moment of relief during a time when so many people are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. We can’t fix the economy, but we can hopefully give you a few laughs while we all ride it out!” said Blackwell. “Being broke sucks, but being broke together sucks a little less.”
The series is supported by a team that includes CSA-nominated director of photography Colin Evans, editors Tim Blackburn and Andrew King (also a CSA nominee), sound editors Brad Tigwell and Vanessa Hannah, two-time CSA winner Anita Yung, Demilo Films’ newly appointed Director of Development Ashley Cowie, independent producer and writer Cassandra Sirois, independent director and producer Jenna Schaefer, and writer and recent graduate of the CFC’s inaugural Comedy Series Lab Jezabel Bamberg.
To date, Blackwell has produced seven short films, including six through Lumida Productions and one co-produced with Schaefer and Matilda Davidson, executive produced by Paramount+ Canada’s Laura Heath Potter. Earlier this year, Blackwell received development funding from the Ontario Creates Futures Forward program for her debut feature film, The Legacy.
